Candy Corn Hand Sanitizer Covers

I love the smell of pumpkin.  Not fresh pumpkin, which smells pretty much like every other raw squash, but the pumpkin spice candle scents, and pumpkin soaps, and pumpkin pie, and pumpkin bread...  So I was beyond happy when, on my last trip, I discovered that Bath and Body Works had a delightful array of autumnal scents full of pumpkin-y goodness. Not one, but two!  Mmmm.  Happiness.

Not only did they have awesome soapy scents, but I also picked up some yummy smelling hand sanitizers to match the foaming soaps that I bought.  I got them home, and all I could think about was what fun I would have crocheting covers for them all!

Candy Corn Hand Sanitizer Cover
Size G hook
Worsted weight yarn in Yellow, Orange, and White (I used Bernat Handicrafter 100% cotton yarn in Mango, Orange and White)
Yarn needle
12" ribbon (I used 7/8" wide white organza)
Bath and Body Works pocket hand sanitizer

ch 6
R1: sc in the back of the 2nd ch from hook, sc in the back of each ch across (5 st)
R2: ch 1, sc in each sc across (5 sc)
R3: ch 1, sc in the back loops of each sc across row, 3 sc across the short side, 5 hdc in the back loops of the foundation chain, 3 sc across the other short side, sl st to first sc to close round (16 st)
R4-5: ch 1, sc in each sc around, sl st to first sc to close round (16 st)
R6: ch 1, 2 sc, (sc next 2 st tog) 2 times, 4 sc, (sc next 2 st tog) 2 times, 2 sc, sl st to first sc to close round (12 st)
R7: ch 1, sc in each sc around, DO NOT sl st round closed, turn (12 st)
R8-10: ch 1, sc in each sc across (12 st)
R11: ch 1, 2 sc, sc next 2 sc tog, 4 sc, sc next 2 sc tog, 2 sc (10 st)
Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

Slide hand sanitizer into case.  Use crochet hook to pull the end of the ribbon through the last stitch on the edge of R11, then pull the other end of the ribbon through the first stitch of R11.  Tie a bow and be done, if you like, or tie a small half knot and then use the rest of the ribbon to tie your hand sanitizer onto your keys or purse.

**A note about ribbon:  It will last longer and not fray if you run a lit match or lighter across the cut ends and slightly melt them (which seals them).**

xoxo

    1. Hi Mariel! You're right, they would make a perfect little gift, since you'll have so much yarn left over you could make a bunch of them! LOL!

  4. This is too pretty, I have always loved the gradient of candy corns, and also love the smell of pumpkin and pumpkin spice, in fact, the other night I was sniffing the pumkin scented candles at walmart and was at war with myself over buying those or other much needed household items, unfortunately I had to choose "other" lol.... next time, next time.

    1. Even though it's 93 degrees out, that just made me want to light up my 'leftover' pumpkin spice candle from last year... LOL!!!

    1. Sure! I swear, they have the best smelling hand sanitizers. I would wear the pumpkin scents as perfume if they made it...

    2. I have printed off the pattern for the above-named project. I am confused about the instructions for the chain 6 and Rounds 1@2. Shouldn't they be joined by a slip stitch? I guess I am just dumb when it comes to reading patterns. I would love to make these. Any help? Thank you. KAREN kcolyer25@yahoo.com
